My Name is Tony Myles, and I am a Dad
My Name is Tony Myles and I am a dad.
But everyone has a back story...
I’m not sure why you’d be all that interested in mine, because let’s face it – you’d rather tell me yours. You have just as many quirks as I do when it comes to how you were raised, where you’re at in life now and the crazy things that are happening in your household.
But maybe that’s why you’re reading this.
Because I have just as many quirks as you do when it comes to how I was raised, where I’m at in life now and the crazy things that are happening in my household.
It would seem that I’m at a point in life where it’s time to confess some of what I’ve learned. I imagine you’re on this blog because you’re hoping some of my hindsight can create some foresight. That sounds like a great arrangement, especially if you’re willing to share your journey as I share mine.
If you’re interested in how I got here, the tipping point was simply this – I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior when I was 16 years old. I somehow started attending church right around the time that my parents separated from each other, not realizing until much later how critical this all was. The tremendous care and wisdom I received through some fellow Christians exposed me to what they’d learned from the Bible, allowing me the chance to process these truths for the first time in my life. I became aware of deeper definitions for love and family than what I’d experienced, wondering whether or not something that amazing was even possible.
Now I’m on the other side of that, and as of this July will have been married to my amazing wife for twenty years. I’m a different husband because of Jesus Christ in my life, not to mention a different dad to our three kids.
Note that I didn’t say a perfect dad, or even a great one… I said a different one.
That’s what I hope to bring to the table in whatever I write here, there and everywhere. Anything I share with you will aim to prod at how you currently see things in order to squint into the much brighter, deeper, fuller Story of God. Hopefully you’ll take your immediate and extended family along.
These days I’m a senior pastor in an imperfect church full of messy Christians and non-Christians. I have a huge heart for parents, marriages, teenagers and kids… because God has a huge heart for parents, marriages, teenagers and kids. I’ve likewise spent more than two decades working with various forms of youth ministry.
But like I said, that’s just my back story… and you have a back story that’s probably just as interesting. Let’s talk about that together, but let’s also talk about what’s happening today so that we can dream with God about what could happen tomorrow.
Are you in?
