Can I post any of this material on my website or blog?

MEDIA (Music & Video)

Lifetree/Group does not own the rights to all of the material used in our products. You may need to acquire additional licensing from the copyright holders of such music or videos before we can complete your request (the copyright holder is listed in the copyright line of the song; and there may be more than one).

Churches, schools, or organizations who have purchased a Group VBS Starter Kit have our permission to use songs specifically marked as “copyright Group Publishing” in presentations to your church or organization to promote or review your VBS, within the same year as this dated material.

To request a form please email permissions@group.com.

Media FAQs

I purchased a song/video download. How many copies may I make?

You may not make copies of our media downloads without written permission. The terms of use allow the person making the purchase to download the item to five (5) different electronic devices (i.e. one CD backup; two computers—home and/or work; MP3 player) as backup copies.

I found your music on a YouTube video and want to use it. Do I have to ask for permission to use the music from that video?

Yes, you need to request permission for any use outside of YouTube. Please be aware that music and/or videos posted on YouTube are not considered in the “public domain.” Music and/or videos may have been used or posted without permission from the copyright holder(s).

Our church/organization has a small budget. Can I copy the song/lyrics to give out to the children/band members?

Many churches and organizations have limited budgets and numerous uses for our material. It would not be fair for one organization to purchase the necessary items while another obtains it for free, for anything currently available for sale. Please contact permissions@group.com to inquire about any special circumstances or needs.

What does the CCLI license allow my church to do?

CCLI license allows you to use song lyrics within a church setting (in bulletins, onscreen, or in class).

What are the types of licensing I might be requesting?

  • Mechanical—allows duplicating music to a CD
  • Master use—use of our version of a song or video
  • Video synchronization—allows duplicating music or video footage to a DVD or  the Web
  • Transparency print—allows making a PowerPoint or transparency print of song lyrics or sheet music
  • Print—allows copying print lyrics or sheet music in a songbook or bulletin
  • Web—allows posting a song or video on a password-protected site in streaming format only
  • Other—this would include requests to obtain song lyrics, public performance, or broadcast music or video via radio or TV
